Although it seems that Aveiro is filled with grafitti and other street art, the truth is that it’s a beautiful city. Perhaps I should start concentrating on that?

Classic Volkswagen
We came across this classic car near the park in Oiã. //embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Is Vhils in Aveiro?
I was in Aveiro early this morning, and I noticed this piece of street art has appeared near the station. Apparently it was created by an Artist called Vhils and is made by hacking away the plaster from the wall to reveal the layers and bricks below.
Festa de Santo Antonio, Carris
Last weekend was the Festa de Santo Antonio in Carris. As usual it was a weekend of parades and music, food and beer. This year the last day of the Festa also coincided with Portugal’s match against Holland in Euro 2012. It could have been a very sombre party, but fortunately Portugal won.
Train Graffiti – Estação de Oiã
Tagging the Regional trains is a popular pasttime in Portugal. The high speed trains don’t get tagged so much. Presumably because they are travelling too fast…
Mamarrosa
I like old houses, especially old derelict houses, so you can imagine my delight in spotting this one just outside the centre of Mamarrosa.
This weekend is the Festa in Carris
This weekend is the Festa do Santo Antonio, for the village of Carris. Here is a reminder of last year…
Live Music at Casa do Parque
We covered a lovely little live music event in Silveiro last week (just before I went down with a mild case of pneumonia). More images can be found here.
The Forum, Aveiro
Outside the Forum. There used to be an excellent, if rather pricey, photography shop in this parade. Now it is yet another mobile phone outlet.
The Forum, Aveiro
In the centre of Aveiro is The Forum…
What I like about Aveiro…
…is all of the street art. There’s always something new and different. In this case, the final year students at the local school were brining a bit of colour to the streets. The ‘exhibition’ was called “Have a NICE Day” (yes, in English).
Another view of the Port at Aveiro, Portugal
Another view of the mothballed ships in Aveiro. I wondered whether someone had placed that little boat there deliberately just so photographers could get a really nice shot…
Aveiro Docks
We were fortunate enough to be able to go to the Docks at Aveiro yesterday, my first time. It’s a wonderful place and a dream for photographers. These shipped are mothballed. I wanted to go onto the ship, but thought it was prohibited (probably is) but people do apparently go on board.
Crescent Moon
I really enjoy photographing the moon and stars, although I don’t really have the right equipment. Still it’s surprising what you can achieve with a long lens nowadays, even hand-held…
Tucked away…
…on the bookcase there is a poster tube. It has been there so long, I had completely forgotten what was inside. Upon checking, I found this…
Butterfly, Carris
Out in the fields, photographing the flowers, I managed to sneak upon this beauty.
Water Tower, Oiã
Vespa, Aveiro
During our day in Aveiro last week we saw this Vespa. Mopeds are a common form of transport in Portugal and some of them are in beautiful condition.
Allotments, Carris Portugal
I was out photographing the allotments in Carris and spotted this chap at work. Before I could take a candid shot, he hailed me and asked to take his photograph. Only too happy to oblige.
It’s Not Unusual…
Actually it is… In London there would be helicopters flying over all of the time, mainly police, but in Oiã anything other than a jet flying over at 35,000ft is something to go out and see. In this case we think the ‘copter was photographing the area, notice the large camera housing on the side.
