Testing an old 6MP digital camera I picked up for 3€, 14 March 2023

The CEX website is an excellent resource for cheap digicams from the dawn of the 21st century and occasionally they have some real bargains so I always keep an eye out.

Last week they were advertising a ‘generic 6MP camera’ for 3€. I like these particularly as you are never sure what you are going to get. It turned out to be a Casio Exilim EX-Z65 from 2007 in lovely condition complete with charger and a nice little case.

It’s a basic point and shoot camera, and on the whole took some decent photographs. As well as some general landscapes, I also tried out the macro mode, and the close up images were pleasing and quite sharp, and of course some digital trichromes, though figuring out howto set the camera to monochrome was a bit of a task. One thing I did forget to do was take the infrared filter to check out its IR sensitivity.

I’ll take the camera out again soon, but I’m thinking this might be ideal for a conversion to full spectrum for some #shittyinfrared.
