On a visit to our closest city we spent a while watching the traditional boats on the canals in Aveiro. With its extensive network of canals Aveiro is known as the Venice of Portugal, and the boats are a hit with tourists even in October.
As well as the canals, Aveiro is a centre of culture, and this is expressed throughout the city whether it is street art on the city’s walls or installations like the friendship bridge, created after two students tied ribbons to the bridge as a symbol of love and friendship. Also known as The Bridge Of Lovers it is now full of ribbons that are signed and tied with love
